Leather Care

Leather is naturally porous and as such will release moisture and natural oils when exposed to excessive light or heat. This causes it to become dry, lose flexibility and ultimately become brittle and crack. Once the damage is done, while some repair can be made, it can’t be completely reversed.

CLEANING

Use a ‘fog – moist’, soft and clean cloth. This way you don’t just clean the surface, you also supply the leather with moisture.

Should you use a leather cleaner, it is important to use a cleaner that is made for genuine leather. To treat the surface, apply the leather cleaner in circular motions and use a damp cloth to remove any excess solution. To avoid over-treating the leather, applying a cleaner once or twice a year should be suficient.

Heavy stains caused by oil or grease need a special leather stain remover that is gentle on the material.

NOURISHING

Every 6-12 months, nourish your leather goods with a leather conditioner containing fats and/or oils to restore moisture and improve the appearance of your loved items. We recommend letting the feel and look of the leather guide your timing.

Test the leather conditioner on an inconspicuous spot. Let it set for two hours and see if you are happy with the result.

Put a small amount of the conditioner on a lint-free cloth and gently apply it to the leather in circular motions. Allow the conditioner to dry for at least two hours, or overnight if you have the time. Then gently buff off any excess.

Please stay away from products that contain alcohol or acetone, as they will cause severe damage to the leather by removing color from the material and leaving bleached spots.

STORAGE

If not used for a while, store your bag or wallet in a clean, dry place and use silica sachets to avoid dampness. To optimize protection, store your item in the original dust bag.
